Before and After: Sister Love
Designing for my sister has many perks, none more enjoyable than being able to hang out with her on a regular basis! We have worked on many projects in her home over the years, but my favorite to date is the transformation of her living room. The space was tired and brown – it had a decade old built-in that was falling apart; worn out, misshapen upholstery; a dated fireplace and one too many Buddhas.
She knew she wanted something lighter, brighter and cleaner. Using her existing rug as our foundation, we designed a new fireplace and media wall that had a more substantial mantle and altogether more transitional feel. We sourced beautiful soapstone for the hearth; purchased a Montauk sofa and Jessica Charles chairs; used a combination of Kerry Joyce fabrics for the pillows and drapery panels; chose a beautiful Darren Oberto piece for over the fireplace; and designed a custom coffee table from Mike Bell. The room now combines timeless, elegant pieces with clean-lined furniture creating a serene, beautiful space.
